Social Classes The social classes in Rome were Patricians (the wealthy elite), Senators (the political class whose power changed due to the attitude of the emperor), Equestrians (the former Roman cavalry, which became a business class), Plebeians (the free citizens), Slaves, Soldiers, and Women.

Roman WomenThe role of a roman woman was determined by the status of the man in their life, if it was their father or husband. Their amount freedom depended on their wealth and social status. The women who owned their own businesses or were wealthy widows had the most freedom and power. Women could not vote or run for office. However they were a bug influence, because they were expected to be a traditional wife/mother who worked at home.
